Is Ozempic a dirty word?
Ozempic is a name-brand for a semaglutide drug with a side effect of weight loss. However, I’m umbrella-terming Ozempic with all semaglutide, tirzepatide, and liraglutide drugs (i.e., Wegovy, Mounjaro, Saxenda, etc.)
Recently, I’ve seen another surge of plastic surgeons on IG calling out celebrities for their use of semaglutide weight-loss medications without crediting them for drastic weight loss results. While this is very sexy for the algorithm, it hardly scratches the surface of weight-loss drugs and why they’re being prescribed.
Losing weight can be a desired result of these medications. However, what happens after termination of semaglutide injections should also be considered. Weight loss alone leaves you in a smaller version of the shape that you didn’t like to begin with. Then, there is inevitable weight gain on a deconditioned body that has lost both muscle and bone density with the fat loss. While professionals are administering Ozempic and similar drugs, there is a lack of nutrition therapy to follow up, if any nutrition guidance at all.
Your clinician prescribing semaglutide injections likely lacks education in exercise science, disordered eating, and nutrition.
If you are making the financial and physical commitment of weight-loss injections and their side effects, you need and deserve the mental commitment of a nutrition coach to go with it. Why? To guide you past the feelings and behaviors that contributed to getting into the situation where you chose to use medication for weight loss in the first place.
Ozempic alone will not give you the body of your dreams.
This is not to say I am against weight-loss injections. They can be excellent tools for managing diabetes and obesity-related diseases. However, it should be used as part of a multi-system approach. What you fuel your body with during AND after weight-loss injections is vital to your health and longevity, and will help you achieve sustainable results. The imposed energy restriction of weight-loss injections affects how you’ll need to exercise to maintain muscle mass and effectively change your body composition. Ozempic, GLPs, and semaglutides can be life-changing IF used in conjunction with nutrition consulting and exercise.
If you are ready to use Ozempic, you should be prepared for lifestyle changes. Let me help you make these changes long-lasting, beginning with a New Client Package of virtual personal training and nutrition consultations.
